Crossover is now open, but limited
Set your alarm clock the crossover is now open to 20 cars starting today July 14th. But “shorebird activity that could reduce vehicle access” in the future according to the Town.
Prior reports indicated that the crossover might be closed until late July due to a hatched bird within 100 yards of the gate.
The Town cautions: “There are unhatched least tern and piping plover nests north of the Crossover; pairs that lost their nests during the early June storm renested, which pushed back the timeframe when unfledged chicks are present on the beach. When these nests hatch, the required vehicle restrictions will be put in place”
So grab you 4x4 and head out. BTW, expect a late afternoon thunderstorm, keep a weather eye.
