Police Chief Michael Botieri changes tune on vigil now re-scheduled for tonight 630pm at Brewster Gardens
Yesterday, Police Chief Michael Botieri told Wicked Local Plymouth that he "received [information] through police agencies indicating the possibility of a group of agitators descending on the peaceful gathering Wednesday night" but as of Wednesday afternoon the Chief now says "he believes the event will be peaceful and does not think businesses and residents in the downtown area need to fear any vandalism or looting afterward".
The Chief did not give any reason for his reassessment of the threat level. Botieri plans to speak tonight at the Brewster Gardens event, sponsored by Indivisible Plymouth and the Plymouth League of Women Voters.
Yesterday Wicked Local reported the Chief "said he received calls from dozens of downtown businesses and residents who expressed fear and concern that their homes and businesses could be targeted by vandals".
Plymouth No Place for Hate still plans on hosting a virtual vigil on PACTV tonight also 630pm.
